Main inspiration as a kid and still today. I am glad I met Doug in person and still talk with him from time to time.

Man, so many hours spent on this game, still got my CD. Cartoon series was quite good, too. I'm so glad that there's still a lot of people that remebers this awesome character. How's Doug as a person? He's one of my favourites.

I somehow guessed this would be one of your favourite games, your style reminds me of it a lot...

Out of curiosity, has Doug ever gotten really irritable with you for no reason? I spoke to him once about how I admire him as a fellow Christian cartoonist and... Let's just say it didn't go well. I apparently made him very angry somehow or other, but I have no clue what I did.

When I met him online 10 years ago, I was telling him my atheistic believes on his forum and we had some energetic discussions, but he was always keeping it to a level of respect and never attacked me personally, he challenged my believes and it's connected with some more harsh sounding positions. When I met him at Comic-Con he was nice and gentle and bought me a beer. He's also just a human being and can have some frustrating moments, maybe you got him at the wrong moment. And I don't know what you said, but we both don't like shallow arguments and troll a bit to get people out of their comfort zones when it comes to important topics, or stuff where our heart is connected to.

I hope that's all it was. I asked him how me keeps so strong in his faith while still acknowledging all the bad things that happen in the world and he responded by telling me that I'm a spoiled brat and an idiot. It was jarring, to say the least.

Well, that question is not the smartest and most overused argument against his belief. And pretty passive-agressive sounding. Doug had a lot people challenging his believes and I think he enjoys a good smart discussion, but at wrong places with no other reason than just spoiling the moment is not the best idea, don't you think?

I wasn't trying to challenge him. I told him that I have the same beliefs, but that I have a hard time holding to them in the face of hard times and I wondered if he had any advice. He somehow translated that into me being a spoiled rich kid who believes everything the mass media tells him and then proceeded to rant about the media. As someone who also believes the media is nothing but lies, even I thought he was going into borderline paranoid territory after a bit.

I wasn't quite sure if I'd hit him on a bad day or if he's just gone completely crazy.

Sounds like him. I think you just discovered someone who is just not accepting someone with that sort of position and he kinda searches the reasons in today's media too, which is somehow true, but also a cheap arguement. He can be vocal and will fight for his belief, but he's not crazy. Except you think 'crazy' is the same like someone with a strong opinion and harsh rethoric.

Again, he has endless discussions about religion and got even discriminated for his believes and politics, so he is way to open with his choice of words. And when you met him at a Con, it was probably the wrong location for that topic.

By crazy, I just meant seeing things that weren't there... Such as me somehow being an underprivileged media monkey when I'm dirt poor and think the mass media is out to get me. *laughs*

So, yeah, sounds like I somehow struck a nerve without intending to.

I remember when i've god that game first time. I was so suprised i didn't even know how to feel. Sega (as well as any other 16 bit\bunch of new colors) was so new here. The animation was perfect. Thos dark jokes, that junkyard-level, that What the Heck? - level with that classic music. It was like a being slapped into face after those 8bits. And it looks like a catroon, but there is something mature about it. The humour is different and unusual. Character design is unique too. I can't even explain how it felt back at those days. I saw that cartrige in a store with that dark uber-realistic Jim-picture and wasn't sure to buy it or not.
Earth Worm Jim is totally one of the best memories from that era.

I only got to play one of the games about once or twice for just a few hours each time as a kid (seeing how we didn't have that console ourselves so I only played it when visiting family-friends we didn't see much, their lucky kids had heaps of games :shakefist:) But I remember that while I was a n00b who didn't know the controls very well - I still thouroughly enjoyed the game for its sheer wackyness and interesting environments. I have been wondering if I should get it via the Wii actually :plotting:

I never got to see the cartoon though. I think they played that in the mornings for a while but it always came on after I had to leave for school :saddummy:
